Is there any wonder why people feel worthless especially now governments are stating “Essential Workers” can resume working.
How can they decide “Who is “Essential and who is not” a job type is essential for one person but not another?
How can they choose who should provide a service and who should not?
Everyone is essential to maintain the flow of the work force in a country. Everyone contributes an important task or job for another person.
When I worked as a Senior Programme Office Analyst the most important people working on the program were the cleaners. Every morning to sit down to a clean desk and have clean toilets to use are all down to the cleaners making the work environment bearable.

What would we do without the twice daily service of tea, coffee, biscuits and cakes. I say these ladies are extremely important especially for those who cannot drag themselves away from their computer screen. They made staff take a break and rest awhile.

Organic Shops which are independent owned businesses providing us with Organic Products such as bakeries, fruit and vegetables, meats, cosmetic products, skin care products there are a multitude of businesses all these small independent shops are essential.

Every Truck Driver is important, where would the large outlets be without them. Who would deliver and drive the long hauls so people can have the basic needs to live.

The Motorway Food and Resting Points are Essential for the long haul truck drivers and other businessmen.
Where can you draw the line in saying people are not essential workers?
Everyone has a right to work and earn a living nobody can refuse them this right.
EVERYONE IS WORTHWHILE AND HAS VALUE.
What you do provides someone somewhere with a service and that makes you worthwhile and essential worker.
Together we create our Planet and Environment.

I could not agree more. The term “essential workers” smacks of utilitarianism. Who except God, Himself, is in the position to make this judgment?

Precisely, too many little tin gods.

I totally agree with you.
It’s definitely hurting a lot of people to call some “essential,” but not others. Same with calling healthcare workers heroes. What about all the others that kept on working during the pandemic and never shut down? And does doing your job really make you a hero?
You have tea ladies? I might consider going back to the office if we had those, too.

Every job is essential to the person working it. That is the way they make a living a provide for their family.

YEP! It seems it is ONLY essential if it fits a certain narrative though.
